Woman who faked baby's death with doll declared not guilty

Thaira Edilka Montero, who placed a doll in a coffin instead of her child, was found not guilty by the court. Her sister testified that it was all a deception that lasted for several months. The court acquitted her.

A woman who placed a doll in a coffin to simulate the body of her supposed deceased baby bought the toy on Vía España and painted it at night in the bathroom to make it look more human. This information comes from the testimony of the woman's sister, shared by lawyer Giovanni Ortega. On December 5, the sentence will be read, in which the judges' motivations for declaring Montero not guilty will be known. According to the lawyer, the sister admitted that it was all a lie created by Thaira, who told her family she was going to work when she traveled to Chiriquí. The supposed baby had been born in the province of Panama, and its supposed body was transported to Chiriquí for the burial. During the fake pregnancy, Tahira sent photos to the supposed father to reinforce her lie. To her sister, she said that her belly 'magically' grew next to Ducdiel,” Ortega narrated. The woman faced accusations for the crimes of simulating a punishable act and slander, as well as forgery of documents. 'She painted it in the bathroom to make it look more human and kept it hidden at her parents' house. She also mentioned that during the trial, the woman's sister looked her straight in the eyes and told her: 'Today I'm going to tell you that I never believed you.' It also emerged that the woman participates in the Evangelical religion. It should be noted that the events occurred in October 2023, when during the funeral, the 'grandmother' of the baby opened the coffin and discovered it was a doll. On Friday, three magistrates of the Chiriquí trial court unanimously declared Montero not guilty.
