In the province of Chiriquí, authorities arrested a former military officer linked to the disappearance of Father Héctor Gallego, a case that shocked Panama in the 1970s. This individual has a 15-year prison sentence against him.

The captured former military officer has been identified as one of the alleged responsible for the disappearance of Colombian priest Héctor Gallego in 1971. Father Gallego was known for his social work in the Chiriquí region, and his disappearance shocked Panamanian society at that time.

According to authorities, the capture of this former military officer was achieved through a coordinated operation that took place in the town of Chiriquí. The detainee will be made available to the authorities to serve the sentence imposed for his participation in the case of Father Gallego.

"This arrest represents an important step in the search for justice for Father Héctor Gallego and for his family, who have been waiting for answers about his disappearance for more than four decades," said a spokesperson for local authorities.
