What started as a violent armed robbery at the Altos del Carmen mini-supermarket, located in the Blas Tello urbanization, Chitré district, Herrera province, ended in a thwarted act due to the criminal's own clumsiness. According to a video circulating on social media, a subject entered the establishment with the intention of committing a robbery, while the employee, a woman, and a little girl were in front of the cash register. In a matter of seconds, and to the robber's surprise, his own clumsiness got the better of him and he was disarmed when he lifted part of the counter that serves as a door to the cash area. The robber's clumsiness foils the assault in Chitré. The employee quickly grabbed the gun before the criminal and threw it out of the supermarket. The subject ran to the store's parking area, retrieved his pistol, and fled the scene, realizing he was outmatched by the employee's agility. Neighbors have described the event as a "miracle" and have highlighted the worker's courage. The criminal lifted the board with such force that it hit the hand in which he was wielding the pistol, and the gun flew out and fell within the cashier's reach.
