'Willy's' Death Marks the End of Carnivals in Herrera

In Herrera, Panama, during the 2026 carnival season, only one fatal case was recorded. A man known as 'Willy' was found dead with a gunshot wound. The Prosecutor's Office is investigating the circumstances, considering both suicide and homicide. A marital dispute is reported as a possible motive.

The case has caused a deep impact on the community, as while the province was celebrating the end of the carnival festivities without major fatal incidents, the death of 'Willy' marked with mourning the end of the 2026 carnivals in Herrera. A 29-year-old man, known by the nickname 'Willy', became the only fatal victim recorded in the province of Herrera during the carnival period that concluded on the same day. According to the first reports, hours before the incident, the young man had been located in a dance garden in the locality. The Herrera Homicide Prosecutor's Office continues the ongoing investigations to determine how the events occurred and to establish whether it was a suicide or a homicide. Later, 'Willy' was found dead in his residence, allegedly with firearm wounds, which generated a rapid mobilization of police units and the Public Ministry. It was reported that a marital dispute allegedly occurred after his partner allegedly found him in the company of another woman, a situation that would have triggered an argument. The scene was cordoned off while experts carried out the corresponding procedures to gather evidence and clarify what happened. When the music faded and the last comparsas were saying goodbye, Tuesday night a news story shook the La Arena district in Chitré (Herrera).
