Carnival Death in Herrera Shores Community

Panama – When the music faded and the last carnival groups were leaving, news on Tuesday night shook the La Arena district in Chitré (Herrera). A 29-year-old man, known by the nickname 'Willy', became the only fatal victim recorded in the province of Herrera during the carnival period, which concluded on the same day. According to initial reports, hours before the incident, the young man had been located in a local dance garden. It was reported that a marital dispute allegedly occurred after his partner supposedly found him in the company of another woman, a situation that apparently triggered an argument. Later, 'Willy' was found dead at his residence, apparently with gunshot wounds, which prompted a rapid mobilization of police units and the Public Ministry. The scene was cordoned off as experts carried out the corresponding procedures to gather evidence and clarify what happened. The Homicide Prosecutor's Office of Herrera is continuing its investigations to determine how the events unfolded and to establish whether it was a suicide or a homicide. The case has had a deep impact on the community, as while the province celebrated the end of the carnival festivities without major fatal incidents, the death of 'Willy' marked the end of the 2026 carnivals in Herrera with mourning.
