On March 3, the Council of Cabinet approved Resolution No. 15-26, authorizing an extraordinary additional credit of B/. 25,422,421.00 within the General State Budget for 2026. The funds will go directly to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), specifically to the Administrative Unit of Reverted Goods (UABR). According to the presentation, the funds have a clear purpose: to hire the company Fatutto, S.A. to sanitize over 456 hectares in the Río Piña sector, in the corregimiento of Cristóbal, province of Colón. The next step will be to take the resolution to the Budget Commission of the National Assembly for its final consideration. The project had previously passed through the filter of the National Economic Council (CENA), which gave its favorable opinion, and also received the approval of the Comptroller General of the Republic, which endorsed the financial viability and convenience of the process. To justify the fund movement, it was explained that the financing comes from resources generated by a sale made to the Panama Canal Authority (ACP). These are lands that require work to be recovered and put into suitable conditions. The approval was not improvised.
