Panama - An investigation is ongoing into a case of deprivation of liberty against a taxi driver in the province of Colón, which occurred on Tuesday night. The incident began when the National Police were alerted to a possible deprivation of liberty on the outskirts of the city. Authorities quickly conducted an operation in the communities of Cristóbal, Cristóbal Este, and Cativá to locate the driver and his vehicle, with license plate 3T-1473. Faced with the police deployment, the criminals were cornered and abandoned the taxi in La Represa, managing to escape. This type of criminal activity reflects a modus operandi where criminals take taxis or private vehicles to later use them in the commission of robberies. Finally, the abandoned taxi was found in the community of La Represa. Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers detected movement in the trunk and, upon opening it, found the taxi driver, who was visibly affected by the incident. According to initial investigations, the criminals posed as passengers and, during the trip, subdued the driver. Then they locked him in the trunk of his own car during a robbery in Colón.
