From Fracture to Death: CSS Orders Audit Over Young Woman's Death After Surgery

Panama - The Social Security Fund (CSS) has ordered a comprehensive medical audit to objectively, with technical rigor and transparency, review the death of 22-year-old Sara Elizabeth de la Rosa, who passed away on January 31 at the Dr. Manuel Amador Guerrero Hospital in Colón. The young woman was admitted to this hospital after a fall and underwent surgery for a fracture. The institution stated that it will guarantee full and complete cooperation with the investigations carried out by the Public Ministry. At the same time, it expressed its most heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the family, friends, and loved ones of the young de la Rosa, deeply regrets this irreparable loss, and joins the grief of those close to her in this difficult moment. Meanwhile, family members indicate that the young woman was admitted for a surgical procedure that doctors at the time considered simple, but her health condition deteriorated in the days following the intervention. They stated that after her death, they were first told she died from a bacteria, then that it was from the contraceptives she was taking, and in the end, they did not give a reason for the death. The family considers this to be medical malpractice, related to the anesthesia that put her into a coma. At the end of this week, she was given a Christian burial in the community of Quebrada Bonita, in the Transisthmica area of Colón, while her family awaits a response from the Prosecutor's Office and justice for this event.
