In Panama, a 45-year-old man, the stepfather of a 13-year-old girl, took advantage of his proximity to the adolescent and sexually abused her for over three consecutive months. Unable to endure the sexual abuse she was subjected to, the minor spoke up and notified the judicial authorities. The Colón Prosecutor's Office conducted the investigation, and on February 1st, the accused was apprehended by the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ) in the Buena Vista district of the Colón Transisthmica area. According to initial inquiries, the man committed the abuse between November and December 2023, and continued in January 2024. During the hearing, the Regional Prosecutor's Office of Colón and Guna Yala requested the Guarantees Court to legalize the apprehension and formalize the charges, requests that were admitted. In the same hearing, a provisional detention measure was decreed for the crimes of aggravated rape and aggravated lewd acts. The case continues its investigation course under the Section of Crimes against Freedom and Sexual Integrity and Gender Violence of said Regional Prosecutor's Office.
