Amid uncertainty over the transition of one company to another at the Port of Cristóbal in the city of Colón, officials from the Ministry of Labor traveled to the Atlantic Coast to address the issue. Jackeline Muñoz, Minister of Labor, upon arriving at the port facility, stated that the goal is to ensure that all workers remain calm and to speak directly with them so that “the due process is followed and all years of service and job stability are guaranteed.” The minister was emphatic in clarifying that there will be no dismissals, as the president of the republic, José Raúl Mulino, said from the beginning. She added that at this meeting, the first link was established with the company that will take over at the Port of Cristóbal in the province of Colón. When asked about operations at the Port of Cristóbal, she said that there are currently no ships and there has been a decrease in operations, but this should not be interpreted as workers being laid off. She also explained that there is a change of employer, which means that workers retain all their acquired rights and years of service. One of the port workers, Queribel Adles, during the Ministry of Labor's visit, stated that they had good communication with the minister about the transition from one company to another. She indicated that there was uncertainty among the port workers, but everything was clarified and all years of seniority will be respected. “Everything remains the same.” The worker explained that the Minister of Labor gave her word that all job positions will be maintained. She also highlighted that they hope to continue working and that the workforce remains in place.
