Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino visited Colón to lead official commemorations of the anniversary of separation from Colombia. He participated in flag-raising ceremonies and presented symbols of national and provincial pride.


Mulino leads national festivities in Colón

The President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, visited the city of Colón this Wednesday, where he led the official acts to celebrate the heroic feat of the Colón residents who ensured our separation from Colombia on November 5, 1903. The protocol acts in the Atlantic province began with the raising of the national flag by the head of state in the central plaza of the Center for Art and Culture. Subsequently, the activities focused on the Solemn Session of the Colón Municipal Council, a key point where outstanding figures of the province were honored. President Mulino handed the national flag to Michael Soto, one of the standard-bearers designated for the patriotic parades in the province. The mayor of Colón, Diógenes Galván, handed the provincial flag to Carlos Araúz; while the president of the Municipal Council, Hugo Castro, handed the Colón flag to its standard-bearers, Michael Chen and Abel Aronátegui. The President was accompanied in Colón by the First Lady of the Republic, Maricel de Mulino; ministers and vice-ministers of State. Also participating were the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, María Eugenia López; the Attorney General of the Nation, Luis Carlos Gómez Rudy; and the governor, Julio Hernández; council members and special guests. The civic activities moved to the headquarters of the Colón Free Zone, where the head of state, the first lady, and the authorities enjoyed the music and talent of the student, institutional, and independent bands.
