Panama Firefighters Extinguish Major Brush Fire in Chiriquí Province

About 30 units of the Panama Fire Department extinguished a brush fire (IMAVE) that consumed more than 10 hectares of pastureland, reported around 1:55 p.m. today on the road leading to Querévalo, in the David district of Chiriquí. Upon receiving the emergency call, paid and volunteer personnel from the EXBURE units and Forest Brigades of the Chiriquí Regional Zone responded immediately, which allowed the flames to be completely controlled, reported Lieutenant Colonel José Luis Bandini, the region's acting chief commander. The firefighters worked strategically to contain the advance of the flames, as residents in the area were concerned due to the large amount of smoke in the area. The joint inter-institutional work with personnel from MiAmbiente, the National System for Civil Protection (Sinaproc), and other support entities prevented the fire from spreading towards homes and areas of greater environmental impact. Fire Department units remain at the site conducting post-control duties, including a thorough assessment of the land and the elimination of hotspots, in order to prevent a possible reactivation, assured the entity. As part of the monitoring, aerial surveillance with drones was implemented, which allows for the supervision of affected areas and nearby homes from the air, guaranteeing the safety of the families in the sector.
