Panama - A 25-year-old man, surnamed Arracera, who had been on the run since Saturday after stabbing his mother and setting fire to the house with her inside, was accidentally located this Monday by units of the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) in Quiteño, corregimiento of Las Lomas, district of David, province of Chiriquí. The suspect, identified by his own mother as her attacker, was found today by Sinaproc while several units were conducting a search for a 63-year-old adult reported missing in Las Lomas. Arracera ended up on the bank of a river in David, beaten, with injuries to his arms and a fracture in one of his legs, after being dragged by a rising current, according to Mónika Acosta, provincial director of Sinaproc in Chiriquí. The suspect was dehydrated, as he remained in the river since after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday—when he fled his mother's house after attacking her—until around 1:10 a.m. this morning, when he was found. After a half-hour walk, officers managed to transfer the suspect to a safe point where paramedics from the Unique Emergency Management System picked him up and took him to the 'Rafael Hernández' Regional Hospital in David, where he remains confined. While Sinaproc continues the search for the missing elderly adult, the National Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office are coordinating actions so that the suspect faces justice for attempted femicide against his own mother, once his condition allows. According to the Ministry of Women, which coordinates an interdisciplinary team to provide accompaniment and care to the family nucleus of the elderly woman, she is stable despite suffering burns to 20% of her body.
