This Saturday in the city of David, the distinguished citizen Francisco Alberto Kapell Gordillo was laid to rest. He participated in important projects for the benefit of the country and his province, Chiriquí. Kapell passed away in the early hours of last Thursday, February 12th, in Panama City at the age of 88. His funeral was held at the Church of Carmen in the Chiriquí provincial capital, as per his wish to return to the land where he was born. As project head, Kapell Gordillo was in charge of the Coiba penitentiary from 1968. Under his administration, inmates began to work on the island for remuneration, marking the first rehabilitation program in that location. Family and friends thanked everyone for their expressions of consideration and gratitude for a man who was true to his values and dedicated to working for the benefit of the majority in every position he held. Additionally, he was the driving force behind the Orange Fair held in Potrerillos Arriba, Chiriquí. He participated in the Bayano hydroelectric project, one of the country's main ones, and also led the construction of the first access route to Barú Volcano, the highest point in our geography. He was also linked to the agricultural sector, assisting animal scientists and agronomists, and was one of the founders of the Agropecuary Marketing Institute (IMA).
