Through this official statement, we are publicly announcing our decision not to participate with our "tunas" (musical groups) or queens in the upcoming 2026 Carnival.

They began by saying, "This is a decision we have made with great regret, due to the stance taken by Mr. the Mayor of the District of Natá. The Mayor has sidelined both "tunas," depriving us of what is rightfully ours by tradition: the organization and execution of the carnival in our district and the traditional New Year's celebration with 'culecos' (water battles)."

They state that this action is due to alleged negotiations with foreign and local individuals who only seek to line their own pockets and are not interested in the collective well-being of our traditions.

The carnival committees of "Calle Abajo" and "Calle Arriba" in Natá announced that they will not participate in the 2026 festivities after reporting problems with the current mayor of the area.

"The lack of consideration for the enormous expenses that both "tunas" incur annually to be able to carry out a high-level carnival is unacceptable," they remark.

"As of the date of this statement, Mr. the Mayor has still not given us a date to meet, despite multiple requests. We deeply regret this decision, which is a direct consequence of not having the support or consideration from the Mayor's Office to carry out the 2026 Carnival as our community deserves," they concluded.
