Panama Unveils New Model for Historic Churches

The Archdiocese of Panama, through its initiative "Iglesias del Casco Antiguo" (ICA), announces a new phase based on a sustainable model called "The New Chapter of Living History." This project transforms the visit to the historic temples of the Old Town into an organized, modern, and sustainable cultural and tourist experience. After more than a decade of continuous work to rescue the historic-religious heritage of the Old Town, ICA seeks to make it one of the most visited and recognized tourist attractions in Panama, strengthening its role as a national benchmark for cultural, spiritual, and heritage tourism. This is a country project that articulates faith, history, and future, constituting a strategic investment in the cultural identity and sustainable development of Panama. The project is backed by strategic allies: GOTUURI, Copa Airlines, Visa, the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), and PROMTUR Panama, integrating technology, connectivity, digitalization of payments, and national and international dissemination to strengthen the visitor experience and heritage preservation. Thanks to this vision, ICA reaffirms its commitment to being one of the main cultural and tourism platforms in the country, becoming a driver of economic, educational, and social development for Panama. The initiative integrates six churches located within the Old Town, each with a particular heritage and spiritual value. With 1.18 million visits in 2024 and over 1.08 million so far in 2025, the Iglesias del Casco Antiguo are consolidated as one of the most visited cultural and religious circuits in the country. Technology will be the bridge that keeps this history alive, and today everyone is invited to be part of this new chapter.
