Mulino and Paz Discuss Bolstering Panama-Bolivia Cooperation

Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino and Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz met in Panama to discuss bilateral cooperation in economy, tourism, environment, and security, as well as support for democratic initiatives in the region.


Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino reiterated that the Organization of American States (OAS) has Panama's support to promote democratic and institutional initiatives that foster stability and progress in Central and South America. At the end of the meeting between the leaders, President Mulino handed his counterpart an invitation to attend the celebration of the Bicentennial of the Congress of Panama, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the dreamed-of project of Latin American union. Through the meeting and the topics discussed, both countries seek to strengthen historical ties, trade, and cooperation, considering Panama a key ally, which began with Paz's visit last November as president-elect, seeking to boost economic and diplomatic cooperation. The leaders discussed the process of economic reforms undertaken in Bolivia in the first months of Paz's mandate, for which they highlighted that Panama's support based on its experience in financial services will be very useful for the challenges facing the South American nation that seeks economic stability. The meeting took place at the Palace of the Herons, within the framework of Ramdin's visit to Panama to participate in the International Economic Forum of Latin America and the Caribbean, organized by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean – CAF. In another aspect, Mulino and his counterpart, Rodrigo Paz of Bolivia, agreed to initiate a process of support and exchange on economic, tourism, environmental, security, aeronavigation, and illegal migration issues, as a single regional vision and with a view to strengthening the economic development of both countries. The President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, and the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, addressed issues such as the follow-up to the current geopolitical situation and the state of democracies on the continent during a meeting, reported the Ministry of the Presidency. Likewise, he invited him to the next 56th Ordinary Period of Sessions of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), which will take place in Panama and is scheduled for June of this year 2026. Both affirmed they are attentive to the state of democracies and institutions in Central America, considering it crucial to guarantee regional stability and the strengthening of the OAS countries. The head of state was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Javier Martínez-Acha.
