New Tienda del Pueblo Store to Open in Panama

The Agricultural Marketing Institute (Ima) announced the upcoming opening of a new Tienda del Pueblo store at the Alcalde Díaz Municipal Market, a significant step for regional food security and local producers.

The Agricultural Marketing Institute (Ima) announced that it will soon open a new permanent Tienda del Pueblo store at the Alcalde Díaz Municipal Market. This new venture is the result of an alliance between Ima and the Municipality of Panama. "This new opening not only reinforces food security in Panama Norte, but will also be a key boost for market tenants," Ima stated. By overcoming geographical and transportation barriers, we managed to get products from seven families in the mountain region directly to the markets of Chitré, according to Ima. According to Ima, the Agroindustrias team has already completed 75% of the work in record time, focusing on painting, air conditioning, and furnishing. The store will serve about 2,000 people daily. Ima also reported the launch of the 2026 National Warehouse Maintenance Program. Additionally, the institution facilitated the transport and sale of 1,000 pounds of Peruvian beans from Palo Alto in Los Pozos, Herrera. It is specified that these works ensure safer, more functional, and adequate spaces for product preservation. The Agroindustry team is also making adjustments to optimize food safety and storage conditions at the Chepo agency.
