The Consumer Protection and Competition Authority (Acodeco) detected widespread non-compliance with energy efficiency labeling requirements for air conditioners sold in stores in Panama City. Energy efficiency labels allow consumers to compare appliances and make decisions that directly impact their electricity bill. Furthermore, they are part of the measures to promote the rational and efficient use of energy, preventing a greater impact on your electricity bill. This information is crucial for consumers to know the level of electricity consumption before purchasing. According to data from the Metrology Department, 22 commercial premises were visited, where 15 brands with a total of 208 models were reviewed. During the inspections, Acodeco verified that the displayed appliances must visibly display the label, as required by current technical regulations and national legislation. The inspection revealed that the majority of the units do not meet the standards required by the regulations. Of these, only three complied, while 205 showed non-compliance with energy efficiency labeling, a mandatory requirement for this equipment. The agency reported that it will continue these operations throughout the country to ensure that businesses comply with the regulations and that consumers have access to clear, visible, and truthful information when purchasing these devices.
