The massive use of phone calls has ceased to be a mere nuisance and has transformed into a dangerous tool for financial fraud in Latin America. Experts warn that cybercriminals use social engineering to trick users, extracting sensitive data and money. The main tactic is exploiting urgency and emotional pressure, forcing victims to make impulsive decisions. Through the Who Calls application, it has been identified that the most frequent topics of unwanted calls are financial scams. Among the main types of fraud are calls from fake bank advisors, technical support, fraudulent social security offers, and notifications about problems with online order deliveries. «Silent calls» are also used to collect voice samples using artificial intelligence. For protection, experts recommend not answering suspicious calls, not installing applications over the phone, and not sharing passwords or codes received via messages. Reporting suspicious numbers helps security systems become more accurate.
