Panama City Streets Covered in Trash After World Cup Qualification

Following the massive celebration of Panama's national football team qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, the city's main thoroughfares, such as Calle 50, Avenida Balboa, and the Cinta Costera, were left covered in trash due to the large concentration of Panamanians who gathered to celebrate the historic achievement. To restore their clean and orderly image, a team of 100 collectors from the Urban and Domestic Cleaning Authority (AAUD), with the support of compactors, four grates, and two mechanical sweepers, worked to clean the area. In total, approximately 12 tons of waste were collected, including glass bottles, cans, plastics, and paper improperly disposed of by the revelers. Work began early Wednesday morning with the aim of returning these important city arteries to normal as quickly as possible.
