Panama - A small aircraft crashed at around 9:50 a.m. this Thursday on the road leading to Isla Perico, on Calzada de Amador, leaving two people injured. The aircraft, a model BE33 with license plate HP-33, departed from Marcos A. Gelabert Airport, located in Albrook (Ancon), heading towards the Calzada Laga aerodrome (North Panama) and made an emergency landing in Amador after reportedly suffering a mechanical failure. The Civil Aviation Authority (AAC) reported that 'the four people on board are receiving medical attention, and so far, there are no reported fatalities.' A couple of hours later, Abd Martínez Espinosa, AAC's deputy director, stated that according to the flight plan, the plane was carrying four people, but it was confirmed on-site that there were only two. The authority assured that upon receiving the accident report, 'they activated emergency protocols and coordinated the response with security and emergency services.' Martínez Espinosa made it clear that it would be too premature to speculate on the cause of the accident, as investigations must be carried out first. Units from the Balboa Fire Station and specialized rescue personnel attended to the fuel spill on the causeway to mitigate any dangerous situation, applying special chemical agents designed for this type of incident, confirmed Lieutenant Caleb Rodríguez, the entity's Operations Deputy Director.
