On Thursday, funeral services were held in honor of National Police Captain José Isaza Melo at the National Police headquarters in Ancón. Melo died in the line of duty on December 12th in Caimitillo. The ceremony was attended by government authorities, including President José Raúl Mulino, the captain's parents, Mireia Melo and José Isaza, as well as family, friends, and fellow officers. Isidro Romero, coordinator of the Citizen Security program for North Panama, highlighted that Melo was a dedicated officer who loved children and hoped his sacrifice would not be in vain. Public Security Minister Frank Ábrego emphasized that Melo gave his life serving Panama with bravery, honor, and loyalty. "The sacrifice of Captain José Isaza Melo will not be in vain; honoring him means to act, to correct, and to support," Ábrego concluded. Four individuals, including a 14-year-old minor, have been apprehended in connection with the double homicide.
