Panama will host the Congress of the International Embryo Technology Society (IETS), one of the world's most significant events in animal reproductive biotechnology. According to the organizers, this will be the fourth time this congress is held in Latin America, a milestone that positions Panama at the center of the global exchange of scientific knowledge applied to livestock. The Dr. Luiz Nasser, president of the Local Organizing Committee and representative of Born Animal Biotechnology, explained that the IETS is the entity that regulates international standards for the commercialization of embryos, making this technology the safest mechanism for genetic exchange worldwide. This event will be held from January 17 to 20, 2026, and will bring together more than 600 international specialists, including scientists, veterinarians, researchers, producers, and students. Government authorities, representatives of the agricultural sector, and scientific leaders agreed that the selection of Panama responds to its zoosanitary strength, the quality of its protocols, and its growing leadership in the production and export of bovine embryos in Central America and the Caribbean. It was also highlighted that Panama has made official exports of bovine genetics, including a recent shipment of more than 800 embryos to Honduras, complying with international standards. "Today, the sale of embryos is the safest way to make this genetic exchange," stated Dr. Emanuel Rodríguez, from the Livestock Directorate of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA). Meanwhile, Gloria De León, administrator of the Panama Tourism Authority, highlighted that the holding of the IETS reinforces the country's image as a destination for world-class events, thanks to its connectivity, hotel infrastructure, and convention centers. "Holding this congress in Panama represents an invaluable opportunity to elevate our country as an ideal stage for international conventions and congresses," she said, linking scientific development with the international projection of the country.
