Kaspersky has issued a warning about a wave of digital scams exploiting the final season release of the series Stranger Things in Latin America. Cybercriminals create fake websites offering free access to episodes before the official launch date. These sites employ phishing tactics that prompt users to enter passwords, email addresses, or credit card details under the guise of a free trial. The aim is to steal personal information and create unauthorized charges. María Isabel Manjarrez, a security researcher with Kaspersky’s Global Research and Analysis Team, explained: "Monitoring the signatures shows an increase in the sophistication of criminal tactics during popular season releases." To protect themselves, Kaspersky advises: verify release dates, avoid providing sensitive data on free‑access sites, confirm the URL is correct, and use security tools such as Kaspersky Premium. Local authorities in Panama City are working with cyber‑security agencies to educate the public and prevent fraud related to the show.
