Panama - A man who exchanged gunfire with a unit of the Institutional Protection Service (SPI) after stealing vehicle accessories ended up injured and was subsequently captured. According to confirmed by Subcommissioner Frank Méndez, head of the Canal police zone, the suspect was located in a dead-end street located behind the headquarters of the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ) in Ancon. The man's capture was achieved after several people reported the presence of a shot man inside a vehicle on the premises of the National Oncology Hospital (ION). The suspect, once apprehended, was transferred to Santo Tomas Hospital for medical attention and remained under police custody until he can be brought before a judge for the judicial processing of the case. Meanwhile, Méndez detailed that the recovery of batteries, vehicle computers, and amplifiers, which are presumed to be stolen, was achieved.
