Artisans who reuse materials, designers who transform waste into unique pieces, eco-friendly markets, and sustainable cultural proposals have strengthened a model that promotes creativity, responsible consumption, and conscious tourism. The Director of Culture and Tourism of the Panama City Municipality, Karla Duque, highlighted that the project has not only revitalized the urban life of the Casco Antiguo but has also repositioned Panama on the international stage.

«The Casco Peatonal has demonstrated that Panama has an authentic and vibrant cultural offer, capable of attracting visitors from all over the world,» said Duque.

Eleven months after the activation of the Casco Peatonal, the Panama City Municipality has transformed this historic site into a permanent point for culture, tourism, and economic dynamism, directly benefiting thousands of citizens and visitors.

What began in 2025 as a pilot plan to open the streets to pedestrians has become, in 2026, one of the city's most successful urban initiatives. Each day of the Casco Peatonal brings together families, tourists, entrepreneurs, artists, and merchants who enjoy a safe, organized, and lively environment.

Statistics that support the impact

The statistics reflect the scope of the project: more than 700,000 visitors participated in the editions held in 2025, generating an estimated injection of B/. 14 million into the local economy. Almost a year after its first edition, the Casco Peatonal has already consolidated itself as a fixed date on the agenda of thousands of Panamanians and tourists.

The Casco Antiguo de Panama is going through one of its best moments. «We are showing a creative, open, and diverse city, with a heritage that is lived with pride,» affirmed Duque.

The Panama City Municipality emphasized that this initiative is part of an urban management model that seeks to return public spaces to citizens, strengthen historical heritage, and activate the local economy from within. Restaurants with high occupancy, businesses with an increase in sales, hotels with greater demand, and a sustained boost for entrepreneurs and artists are part of the results.

Circular economy and cultural sustainability

Within this dynamic, the circular economy has taken on a leading role.
