Strong Winds in Panama: Authorities Call for Caution

According to authorities, the phenomenon is due to the entry of a cold front into the Caribbean, combined with high-pressure systems that are accelerating gusts in several regions. According to official reports, the most intense days will be Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 February, with impacts in both urban and maritime areas. SINAPROC asked the population to secure roofs, loose objects, and take precautions, especially in coastal areas, while the weather event lasts. The entity asked for understanding from passengers and emphasized that the priority is to protect those who use the system daily, especially during peak hours. This incident occurs while IMHPA and SINAPROC maintain a watch warning for strong winds throughout the country, in effect until Monday 9 February. The winds have not let up and are already leaving visible consequences. The temporary tarp of the pedestrian walkway at the Albrook Metro station was torn off by strong gusts recorded in recent days, leaving the passage exposed to the sun and rain in one of the country's most transit areas. The Panama Metro explained that the situation was caused by unusual weather conditions affecting both the national territory and the Caribbean. The structure did not collapse, but the tarp was blown away, forcing the immediate activation of repair work to avoid risks to Line 1 users. Technical personnel is already at the site performing work to restore the tarp as soon as possible, under safety protocols.
