Panama – A fire was reported this Friday morning at a supermarket located inside the Albrook Mall shopping center, in the Ancón district. A dense cloud of toxic black smoke rose into the air and was visible from several kilometers away from the mall, alerting people to the incident. According to Lieutenant Christian Toribio of the Operations Directorate for Extinction, Search, and Rescue (DOEXBURE) of the Fire Department, it was the employees themselves who managed to extinguish the flames with the help of fire extinguishers. 'Upon arrival, we confirmed that it was an electrical defect that had caused a short circuit and subsequent fire outbreak, which was extinguished and contained by the supermarket employees through the use of fire extinguishers,' he pointed out. He added that the firefighters inspected the affected area to secure it and ensure there were no existing risks. The National Directorate of Security, Fire Prevention, and Investigation (Dinasepi) inspectors will be responsible for carrying out the necessary investigations to determine the cause of the incident, which left no victims, only material damage.
