Their work will be conducted in conjunction with the Ministry of Public Works (MOP), the entity leading a comprehensive inspection plan to ensure the structure’s safety. According to reports, the US team will aim to issue an independent technical assessment to confirm whether the bridge is in optimal condition for use, including the transit of heavy cargo vehicles and large buses. The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) is expected to receive a detailed report next Monday with the experts’ findings and recommendations, which will allow them to make decisions about the maintenance and operation of the bridge in the coming days. Structural engineers from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will arrive in the country this Thursday to participate in the inspection of the Bridge of the Americas, following the incident that occurred last Monday. The technical mission, which is being carried out on a voluntary basis, will consist of two structural engineers and two support specialists. The inspection will take place between Friday and Saturday, as part of a cooperation program between Panama and the United States. This effort aims to add technical expertise and specialized tools to the structural review process. Panama will receive international support to reinforce the safety of one of its main transportation routes.
