Senacyt launches 'Science with Awareness' campaign with talks and workshops until December
The National Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Innovation (Senacyt) and the National System of Research (SNI AIP) have launched the 'Science with Awareness' campaign, coinciding with the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This initiative aims to promote reflection, the use of scientific evidence, and institutional action against the various forms of violence that women face.
The campaign program will extend over the coming weeks, offering talks and specialized workshops aimed at strengthening the awareness and response capacity of the national ecosystem.
Highlighted Activity Schedule
The campaign features a calendar of virtual and in-person events designed for different audiences and interests.
Expert Talks and Conferences
• November 20: Marina Parra, environmental educator and activist for the Escazú Agreement, will give the talk 'Governance, Gender, and Environmental Education: Community strategies for the sustainable use of biodiversity and the transformation of structural inequalities'.
• November 26: Dr. Dora Barrancos, a sociologist and historian, a leading figure in Latin American feminist thought, will present the conference 'Patriarchal system and sexogender violence. Challenges for Latin American societies'.
Workshops and Roundtables
• November 25: The workshop 'Communicate without bias: inclusive messages' will be held, facilitated by Komunika Latam. This session is aimed at strengthening institutional capacities for more conscious, inclusive, and stereotype-free communication.
• December 2: In collaboration with Cieps AIP, the roundtable 'Gender-based violence in Panama: what does science say?' will be held, with the participation of Amanda Gabster (FSU), Eloy Núñez (CSS), and Eugenia Rodríguez Blanco (Cieps AIP).
Previously Held Conversations
The 'Science with Awareness' initiative has already launched its reflection cycle with two previous conversations:
• November 11: Participation of Nestor 'Yuyo' García, from the Micaela García 'La Negra' Foundation, who addressed the topic: 'Science with awareness: the legacy of Micaela and the commitment to equality'.
• November 13: Ivis Armién, a specialist in comprehensive nutrition and health, presented the topic: 'Eating behavior, emotions, and violence: a gender approach'.
The campaign is backed by a significant portion of the national scientific ecosystem, including Ciencia en Panamá, the National Center of Competitiveness, and AIPs Indicasat AIP, Cenamep AIP, Indicatic AIP, Crivb AIP, Cieps, Ciedu, Georgia Tech Panamá, and Infoplazas, who accompany and disseminate the initiative.
