The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) and the First Lady's Office launched the "Casa de los Buenos Días Papa Francisco" project in Panama. This initiative aims to strengthen the well-being and social inclusion of older adults. The project is being implemented in the historic building of the former Apostolic Nunciature, which has been transformed into a comprehensive care center. The focus is on active aging and the development of the "silver economy". At the center, older adults will be able to engage in physical activity, socialize, and attend educational and technological workshops. The project also aims to stimulate local employment. The President of BCIE, Gisela Sánchez, emphasized that real development is achieved when the quality of life improves. The First Lady, Maricel Cohen de Mulino, noted that the center will allow older adults to remain active and share experiences within the community. As part of the event, the mobile unit "Ver y Oír" (See and Hear) was also presented. This specialized resource will provide ophthalmology and audiometry services to vulnerable communities throughout the country, facilitating access to healthcare for those with the greatest needs. This care model aims to prevent diseases derived from inactivity and isolation, allowing older adults to continue contributing to community development.
