In a construction building, the police shot at workers unleashing violence in Panama. The People's Party, with a communist ideology, issued a statement demanding the cessation of official repression against the social movement and the end of violence towards popular leaders.
The People's Party expressed its solidarity with SUNTRACS after the brutal repression during a protest against reforms to the Social Security Fund. The excessive use of police force and the detention of more than 500 workers, in addition to the beating of a student, confirm the repressive nature of the Panamanian state.
The workers, taking refuge in the construction building, confronted the police, creating an unequal conflict. The constant use of force by President Mulino is remembered, as in the protests in Changuinola, where there were deaths and injuries.
The People's Party considers that the repression against SUNTRACS is just the beginning and other organizations could face the same fate. The visit of representatives from the U.S. Embassy related to Social Security and calls from Panamanian authorities are highlighted.
The statement calls for the formation of a Unity Front for Action to stop the government's ambitions in the hands of the bourgeoisie, which seeks to affect Pension Funds, reopen the Donoso mine, and modify the Constitution. Freedom for the detainees is demanded, the cessation of police violence is called for, and the authoritarian and corrupt government of Mulino is denounced.
