Panama's Environment Ministry Sets New Rules for Cerro Ancón Reserve

Panama's Ministry of Environment has introduced a new schedule for the Cerro Ancón Nature Reserve, aimed at nature conservation and visitor safety. The reserve will now be open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily, with a ban on plastic items and motorized vehicles. The new rules seek to balance recreational use with environmental protection.

The Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente) has established a new visiting schedule for the Cerro Ancón Natural Reserve. This measure promotes the responsible use of the protected area and ensures orderly experiences. This adjustment aims to offer greater comfort and safety to those who wish to enjoy the natural space. Cerro Ancón remains a symbol of national identity and a valuable space for citizens. It was affirmed that all measures prioritize user safety and ecosystem conservation. MiAmbiente invites everyone to visit it respecting the schedule and current regulations. The restriction seeks to preserve the tranquility and enjoyment of the trails and natural viewpoints. Its strategic location makes it an ideal place for recreational activities and direct contact with nature. MiAmbiente hopes that more people can enjoy the site safely and in an organized manner. Compliance with regulations allows maintaining the balance between recreation and environmental protection. The extended schedule facilitates access for hikers, families, students, and the general public. Visitors must strictly comply with the rules established in Resolution No. DM-0496-2025. It is prohibited to enter the hill on bicycles, skates, motorcycles, or any type of scooter. This way, the preservation of the area's flora and fauna is ensured in the long term. Cerro Ancón represents a key green lung within the city of Panama. Manuel Oscar Justiniani, director of the Cerro Ancón Natural Reserve, highlighted the importance of these rules. It is recommended to bring reusable bottles instead of disposable ones for water consumption. Now the area will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., every day of the week, from Monday to Sunday. This regulation prohibits the entry, use, and distribution of single-use plastics and polystyrene throughout the National System of Protected Areas (SINAP).
