Failure of Panama Mayor's Recall Attempt

Panama's Electoral Tribunal announced the failure of the recall process against Mayor Mayer Mizrachi. Only 0.03% of the required signatures were collected, indicating broad support for his policies among the capital's citizens.

According to data from the Electoral Tribunal, out of a total of 217,322 signatures, only 66 were accepted in the request by Mr. José Clemente Guardia Bernal to remove Mayor Mizrachi from office through a recall. After the 120 calendar days granted by the Electoral Tribunal for this democratic process concluded, it is evident that the actions of the representative of the Panama City Mayor's Office are being highly weighed by the population. Recall is a legal procedure where citizens can determine the permanence or not of a person in an elected position, either by direct vote, signature collection, or a combination of both mechanisms. The math shows that only 0.03% of the total required was collected, that is, not even 1%, which means that Mizrachi has broad support from the citizens of the capital district who did not join this process carried out by opponents who daily appear on social networks and media attacking his administration. Mayor Mayer Mizrachi consolidated his management in just one year of administration, after the failure of the recall promoted by detractors through the collection of signatures.
