Panama celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (Senacyt) held a conversation titled 'Voices of Women that Inspire Science'. The event was organized in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It was attended by Secretary Eduardo Ortega Barría, UNDP Gender Specialist Nelva Araúz Reyes, and other authorities. Senacyt also released data from the Panamanian Observatory of Science, Technology and Innovation for 2025. The report states that Panama has 1,655 researchers, of which 765 are women (46.22%). 57.17% of active female researchers are in the 25-44 age group. The Secretary of Senacyt emphasized that the institution leads the design and execution of the national policy presented in 2023, which aims to open doors for girls and adolescents through scholarships and research career programs. He also stressed the importance of building an inclusive and equitable science. Young scientists analyzed the impact of the National Gender Equality Policy in Science, Technology and Innovation until 2040. They highlighted the importance of fostering vocations in STEM disciplines among new generations. The speakers urged young women to use tools such as the PISTA, Camptech, and Technovation Girls programs, and to seek role models who can facilitate their path in STEM fields.
