Panama to Present New "Ciudad del Sol" Government Complex

Panama's Housing Minister Jaime Jovéne Castillo announced plans for the "Ciudad del Sol" government complex in Albrook. The project includes public office areas, residential, and recreational zones. Planning is expected to be completed by year-end.

Panama's Minister of Housing, Jaime Jované Castillo, announced plans for a new government complex known as "Ciudad del Sol". This ambitious project will include dedicated areas for public offices. According to the minister, the project's location is confirmed to be in the Albrook area, formerly the site of the Ministry of Public Works and the Customs Authority. Additionally, the road network in the area where the complex will be located, as well as its connections to public transport stations (metrobus or metro), are being evaluated. Jovéne acknowledged that due to the project's ambitious nature, it would begin during this administration and would need to be continued by future governments. Several aspects are being analyzed, the minister noted, including territorial planning and land use allocation. The Government City project is currently in the planning stage, reported the Minister of Housing. Jovéne specified that it would start with the ministries located at Edison Plaza on Ricardo J. Alfaro Avenue: Housing, Labor, Commerce and Industries, and Social Development. Jovéne also mentioned that the project also includes a residential and recreational area to bring life to this new development. The Coordinating Unit of Public Infrastructure (UCIP) will be in charge of public service arrangements to prevent citizens from having to travel to multiple locations for different procedures. The planning is based on the possible expansion of Tocumen International Airport, as well as other road projects related to the South Corridor and the extension of Panama Metro Line 2. The Minister of Housing expects that by the end of this year, the planning will be ready to be presented to the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino.
