In Panama, a truck driver was taken to the headquarters of the National Police in Ancón after being intercepted on the Centenario Highway by units of the Anti-Drug Directorate. The vehicle, whose cargo was destined for the United States, underwent an initial inspection with one of the narcotic detection dogs, which tested positive on the floor of the container being transported by the truck's cab. Consequently, a search and warrant order was issued. Beneath several steel plates and a wooden structure, 433 rectangular packages of drugs were hidden, concealed between thin metal frames. It is presumed that the alteration was designed to prevent the drugs from being discovered, but their odor was still detected by the trained dog. Following the seizure of the illicit substance, officers informed the driver that he was being detained for drug-related crimes and that he would also be investigated for the alteration of the container's main structure.
