Panama Repairs Historic District Ahead of Holy Week

In Panama, repair work on the streets of the historic Casco Antiguo district continues ahead of Holy Week. The president of the Casco Antiguo Residents and Traders Association (Avaca), Iva Mei-yin Du, has reported a serious deterioration of the streets, affecting both residents and tourism and commercial activity. She highlighted that at the intersection of Calle Novena and Avenida Central, as well as at the crossing with Avenida B, the poor condition of the roads causes traffic congestion and mobility difficulties. Despite the start of some repair work last year, Du criticizes the slowness of the work and its suspension on weekends, despite the urgency of the situation. She called on the authorities to carry out quality work and coordinate efforts for lasting solutions. The president also warned of dangers to pedestrians, especially people with disabilities and tourists, due to uneven surfaces and water accumulation on the roads.
