Ronny Rodriguez (alias Didier) and William Pitti (alias Guillermo), former agents of the National Security Council (CSN), surrendered on the afternoon of Thursday, March 26, after nearly a decade on the run, and will be tried in April for the wiretapping plot. Former PAN Directors Gustavo Pérez and Alejandro Garúz were sentenced to 5 years in prison. Alejandro Pérez, the lawyer for Rodríguez and Pittí, indicated that both voluntarily approached the First Liquidation Court, presided over by Judge Agueda Rentería, who had declared them fugitives from justice. They are now being held at the Directorate of Judicial Investigation (DIJ) in Ancón. Meanwhile, on April 29, they will be tried for the alleged crime of unauthorized interception of communications. Martinelli was extradited and tried twice for these same acts, but was acquitted. The first one will be on April 24, due to the loss of the wire tapping machine, acquired for $13 million with funds from the National Assistance Program (PAN). For now, two hearings have been scheduled. His defense maintained that no one witnessed the former president ordering the espionage.
