Rising Sophistication of Cyberattacks in Latin America

Cybercriminals are combining legitimate tools to evade defenses, leaving traditional malware only for the final stages of the attack.

Operational challenges in incident response

Organizations face internal difficulties that delay threat containment.

Kaspersky warns about the sophistication of cyberattacks on Latin American companies

According to Kaspersky data, eight out of ten Latin American companies observe a significant increase in digital threats and their technical complexity.

«An effective strategy is built on technology, processes, and talent,» concluded Álvarez de Lugo.

Experts warn that mental health is key to preventing chronic diseases.

The CISO survey conducted by Kaspersky showed that 81% of organizations in the region report a significant increase in the number of attacks in the last two years, while 83% state that these threats have become considerably more sophisticated.

Emerging risks and artificial intelligence

The current landscape reveals that 90% of security leaders believe there is still much to be done to ensure the protection of their systems.

Daniela Álvarez de Lugo, General Manager for NOLA at Kaspersky, ensures that these results evidence a structural gap where the fragmentation of tools and the dependence on manual processes widen the window of exposure to attackers.

Strategies to improve digital maturity

In this scenario, Kaspersky specialists emphasize the need to integrate threat intelligence from reliable sources to improve early visibility.

Among the most critical risk vectors identified are breaches in cloud environments (50%) and threats powered by artificial intelligence (48%).

These are added to phishing (40%), ransomware (32%), supply chain attacks (24%), and advanced persistent threats or APT (28%).

According to the report, the processes that demand the most time are root cause analysis (44%) and real-time threat identification (43%).

Optimizing operational workflows and incorporating automation are fundamental steps to reduce the time between detection and mitigation of an incident.

They also recommend the adoption of technologies like EDR and XDR, which allow for the automated detection of suspicious behavior.
