Thomas Christiansen, the coach of the Panama national team, lamented that the Mexican referee (César Ramos) did not intervene 'at least to prevent these chants.' He responded to a situation related to football matters, however, noted that 'it is a topic that has already passed.'
Christiansen was also cautious in his statements, not making bold claims about a possible big win. Instead, he called on the players to 'keep their feet on the ground' and emphasized that against El Salvador, the most important thing is to take three points at home.
The coach also lamented the performance of the Mexican referee in the situation involving Adalberto Carrasquilla, when fans were shouting 'murderer' at him due to the injury Cruz Azul goalkeeper Kevin Mier suffered in the Mexican league. 'These are things that happen in football,' Christiansen stated.
Thomas Christiansen's message ahead of the match against El Salvador was optimistic, loud, and clear. He did not promise qualification for the 2026 World Cup but did not hide his desire to win this Tuesday at the Rommel Fernández stadium against the 'Cuscatlecos.'
As is known, in this stage of the World Cup qualifying cycle for the USA, Canada, and Mexico, Panama has yet to secure a win at home.
'First, we have to win (against El Salvador), we shouldn't think about goals, because if you don't win, things get complicated,' Christiansen said, adding that for now, 'I'm not going to think about playoffs or direct qualification.'
'The team has known how to suffer, it's true. We were up 2-0, they put us under pressure as expected, but in the end, the most important thing has been the reaction to win,' the manager clarified about Panama's victory.
The Spanish-Danish also admitted that the match against Guatemala at 'El Trébol' was complicated, but it was possible to get through it. 'You have to go step by step, with your feet on the ground, so as not to fail again at Rommel,' said the coach of the Panamanian squad, reiterating that he has not been able to secure a victory in this qualifying phase at home.
