The players and technical staff of the Panama national football team, which qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026, were received at the Las Garzas Palace by the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, who highlighted their tenacity, commitment, and effort in bringing Panama to a high standing.

Erick Davis, Cristian “El Fulo” Martínez, Alberto “Negrito” Quintero, Edgardo Fariña, and Jovani Welch, representing their teammates, were congratulated for their effort on the field. The team qualified undefeated after six matches in the final stage, securing their spot in the World Cup as group leaders and the only representative from Central America.

“Your qualification is a great demonstration of your effort; you shone, and this places you among the top countries that will compete in the World Cup. You gave a tank of oxygen of happiness to all the Panamanian people,” expressed President Mulino.

He also highlighted the support of all Panamanians who filled the Rommel Fernández stadium and took to the streets to enjoy this milestone, marking the country's second participation in the world's biggest football tournament since the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Furthermore, the president emphasized the positive economic impact of this qualification, which has helped internationalize the national team and Panama's name through football.

“In these types of commitments, where a World Cup spot is at stake, no team gives up or cedes space; the position must be earned with victories,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Thomas Christiansen, the national team's strategist, expressed that nothing unites a country like football. He looks forward with enthusiasm to the group draw, which will take place on December 5 in the United States, and stated that both players and the technical staff will prepare to give their best performance at the World Cup.

Manuel Arias, president of the Panamanian Football Federation (Fepafut), highlighted the achievements of Panamanian footballers, whose men's national teams (U-17, U-20, and Senior) have qualified for recent World Cups. He also noted that the women's team will be making its first appearance in the FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup.

Arias also emphasized the need to continue the growth of Panamanian football and the development of new infrastructure. He mentioned the new sports complex in Juan Díaz, where the national team held its final training sessions, and said this complex will be handed over next January.

“Negrito” Quintero expressed his satisfaction at being part of the group of players who are bringing this moment of joy to the Panamanian people and highlighted the strength of each of his teammates.

Vice President Virna Luque was also present at the event.
