Plaza Amador Wins Panamanian Championship

Goals from Jorlián Sánchez and José Murillo allowed Plaza Amador to win 2-0 against Alianza tonight at Rommel Fernández Stadium, conquering their ninth title in the Panamanian Football League (LPF) in this 2025 Clausura tournament.

The lions won their second consecutive title after winning the recent Apertura. Plaza, led by Chiriquí coach Mario Méndez, dominated much of the match, in which Alianza also had their opportunities.

The first goal came in the 17th minute when Jorlián headed the ball into the net, and goalkeeper Jean González could do nothing about it.

In the 42nd minute, Alianza posed a great threat, and Aimar Sánchez became Plaza's hero by clearing the ball off the line in the nick of time.

At the start of the second half, Plaza sought and found good opportunities to extend their lead, which they failed to convert, against an Alianza that tried to get back into the game and occasionally approached the goal with a desire to equalize.

Plaza's second goal under Méndez's guidance came in the 84th minute, with a headed pass from Alberto "Negrito" Quintero that José Murillo finished with two touches to slot the ball into the net.

With this victory, Plaza Amador, who also won the 2025 Apertura, ties San Francisco with nine championships, placing them third in the all-time list of most-winning clubs in Panama.

Tauro leads with 17 stars, followed by Árabe Unido de Colón with 15.
