Mexican Horse Lodyto Race Wins International Classic of the Caribbean in Panama

Mexican horse Lodyto Race, ridden by jockey Irad Ortiz, won the 57th International Classic of the Caribbean in Panama. This event, dedicated to trainer Alberto Paz Rodríguez, gave Mexico its 15th victory in this prestigious competition.


Mexican Horse Lodyto Race Wins International Classic of the Caribbean in Panama

The Mexican horse Lodyto Race, ridden by experienced jockey Irad Ortiz, won the 57th International Classic of the Caribbean, the main event of the Caribbean Racing Series, held at the Presidente Remón Racetrack in Panama City.

The three-year-old chestnut horse completed the 1800-meter race in a time of 1:53.10. The event featured a prize pool of $350,000 and was dedicated to the renowned Panamanian trainer Alberto Paz Rodríguez.

The race was run in splits of 24.3 seconds for the first 400 meters, 50 seconds for the 800 meters, 1:14.3 for the 1200 meters, 1:40.2 for the 1600 meters, and exactly 1:53 for the 1800 meters.

Second place went to Sol Auyan Tepuy (Panama) and third place to Brigo (Panama).

Lodyto Race made its debut on October 5, 2024, at the Hipódromo de las Américas in Mexico, finishing second in a photo finish over 1,100 meters.

With this victory, Mexico now has 15 wins in the main event of the Caribbean Racing Series, tying with Venezuela and one win behind Panama's 16 victories in this competition.

Meanwhile, Irad Ortiz tied Emisael Jaramillo with 17 wins in the Caribbean Racing Series.

During the ceremony, Gerald Castillo on behalf of the sponsor, Carta Vieja, yielded the honor to His Excellency Fernando Boyd Galindo, Panama's Minister of Health, to present the trophy to the owners, Claudio Álvarez and Jovany Gabriel, alongside the honoree, Alberto Paz Rodríguez, in the company of the winning breeder, Claudio Álvarez Sr.

In the Confraternity Cup (for males), in honor of Panamanian owner Luis Shirley, the horse 'Spectacular Winner' representing Panama, ran a spectacular race and engaged in a battle with another Panamanian, 'Teucro', to secure the honors.

Following them were Radiólogo (Puerto Rico) and Cholo Moon (Panama).

A son of Zeewat (USA) out of Mila Race (MEX) by Danzig Prince Race (MEX), Lodyto Race belongs to Cuadra Irish and is trained by José de Jesús Sánchez.
