Call to Order Public Transport in Penonomé

Chairman of 'United for Penonomé' urges authorities to take urgent action to address public transport chaos caused by operators' refusal to use the official terminal.

Call to Order Public Transport in Penonomé

Isaac Melamed, president of the group United for Penonomé, urged the Transit and Land Transport Authority (ATTT) and the Municipality of Penonomé to take urgent measures to regulate passenger transport. Melamed warns that the current disorder in public transport is a consequence of the opposition that several transport operators' leadership still maintains to operate from the terminal located on Penonomé Boulevard. Months ago, a group of operators decided to leave this terminal and set up in a yard after failing to reach an agreement with the terminal's management on several issues. As Melamed explained, this decision has caused a setback in the progress made to organize transport in Penonomé through dialogue with civil society, authorities, and the transport operators themselves. He added that, as a result of this dialogue, a traffic regulation heading towards the transport terminal had been achieved, along with improvements at two turnarounds and deceleration lanes. "Most of the buses have moved to another place that does not have the appropriate conditions or the necessary permits to operate as a transport terminal." For this reason, he reiterated that the civil society of Penonomé considers it urgent to find a solution that allows to restore order and guarantee an adequate service for the population.
