School Transporters Protest Against Piracy in Santiago

Representatives of several school transport organizations in the city of Santiago held a peaceful protest in the form of a caravan that headed to the offices of the Regional Directorate of the Transit and Land Transport Authority (ATTT). The goal of the action is to demand firm measures against pirate transport, which they say puts at risk the service they provide to the community. Edwin Ortega, a spokesperson for the school transporters, expressed his concern about the increase in people offering student transportation without the necessary permits and regulations established by law. They stated that this situation affects the safety of students and the stability of the sector. Raúl De León, a representative of the Veraguas School Union, explained that a growing proliferation of illegal transport dedicated to student transportation has been recorded in the province. He noted that during the protest, they handed over a document to the authorities requesting immediate intervention to stop this practice. "We are asking that action be taken in accordance with the country's laws and that sanctions be imposed on those carrying out school transport functions without proper authorization," stated De León. In turn, the regional director of ATTT in Veraguas, Juan Manuel Guevara, indicated that the entity will take measures in response to the complaint filed by the transporters. Guevara announced that operations will be carried out to detect and sanction those providing school transport services illegally, reiterating that these practices constitute a violation of current regulations. School transporters hope that the authorities will reinforce controls to guarantee a safe and regulated service for the province's students.
