11-Month-Old Baby in Panama Fights for Life After Sexual Abuse

Panama - An 11-month-old baby is fighting for her life after being sexually abused. The infant was taken to the Luis "Chicho" Fábrega Hospital by her mother over the weekend for symptoms of gastroenteritis, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. However, the pediatrician who examined her noticed signs of sexual abuse and reported it to the authorities. The baby remains in the intensive care unit (ICU) after suffering cardiac arrest upon admission. On Monday, staff from the Public Ministry (MP) of Veraguas are at the hospital and the child's residence in Santiago, conducting several forensic diligences to establish the identity of the possible suspect and determine when the sexual assault may have occurred. The Public Prosecutor's Office of Veraguas has initiated an investigation into the alleged commission of a sexual crime against an infant.
