Fire destroys home in Panama, family loses everything

Panama - A humble family lost everything after a fire consumed the little they had inside their home, located in the La Pita community, Canto del Llano district, Santiago, in Veraguas. The flames destroyed everything in the unrendered block house with a zinc roof at around 1:00 p.m. yesterday. Since then, the two minors, ages 11 and 13, who live there with their parents, have not been able to go to school, and their parents to work, as school supplies, clothing, beds, and other belongings were reduced to ashes. Eduardo Chen, head of the Coclé Fire Department, detailed that to extinguish the flames, the firefighters had to force the iron door, as there was no one inside the small house. He assured that although the house does not have an electricity supply from a company, it did have a solar panel to which some appliances were connected, so it is presumed that the fire could have started 'from that side.' Now the family requires solidarity, so the support of the community and local authorities is expected so that they can return to normalcy. This Wednesday, units of the National Civil Protection System inspected the structure to determine if it was safe.
