Approval of Hemp Production to Boost Employment in Panama

Hemp has been approved with regulation for its sustainable production in Panama. Deputy Carlos Saldaña highlighted that the country has the land, training, and qualified labor to carry out this project. This initiative is presented as a solution to the current crisis faced by the Social Security Fund, as it is expected to generate employment and have a positive impact on the agricultural sector, allowing producers to increase their yields and improve their regional competitiveness by offering products at more accessible prices.

The approval for hemp production came through Bill 26, which clearly establishes the differences between hemp and cannabis, in addition to proposing sanctions and conditions to prevent the formation of monopolies in the market. This regulation encompasses aspects such as the production, marketing, export, and quality control of hemp, with the expectation of generating economic, environmental, and social benefits for the country.

The main objective of this law is to regulate all stages related to hemp, from cultivation to marketing and distribution, without the need to resort to government appointments or subsidies for producers. Deputy Saldaña has emphasized that sustainable employment opportunities open up with this project, which will contribute to the development of the agricultural sector and the economy of the country in general.
